Welcome Greta Jalyne!
We had quite the exciting afternoon and evening on November 27th. We headed over to my parents house for our official Thanksgiving dinner because that was when the whole family was able to all be together. I guess Greta wanted to come out and be apart of all of the fun too! As soon as we walked in the door I started getting some minor contractions. I did not think too much of it because I had been having on and off contractions for almost the past two weeks. They started coming and I told Brian to which he said, “let’s get this dinner started!”. He wanted to be sure that we did not miss out on the delicious meal my mom had prepared!
We were able to enjoy the yummy Thanksgiving dinner and I breathed through dessert as my contractions started getting more intense and more regular. I told Brian and he said we are headed to the hospital! We left in our van with the boys, planning on stopping at our house on the way to drop off the boys with my mom and Karen who were following us from behind. As we were driving the contractions got really painful, I had to try hard not to cry out because I did not want to scare our boys. As we were getting closer to our house a big one hit me and I said, “we are going to the hospital right now!” Brian called my sister and told them to meet us at the hospital so they can take the boys back to our house.
We hit a ton of stoplights on the way to the hospital, but at last we made it! Brian dropped me off at the door and I stumbled in trying to walk between contractions. I told the ladies at the front desk that I need to be seen right away. I quickly filled out the hospital paperwork and they took me back. The nurse told me later that they took me quite seriously because I had the look if looks could kill going on at the time!
The doctor checked me out quick and found out I was already 8 cm dilated! Brian brought the boys in while we waited for my mom and sister to get there. The boys were very excited. Eli kept telling all of the hospital staff, “my mom is going to have a baby” and Asa said “hi” to everyone. It was a bit crazy! My mom and sister came and brought the boys home.
The labor was very quick and smooth. I am so thankful! I started contracting at 4:45pm at my parents, I got to the hospital at 5:45pm and I had her at 8:45pm. I pushed for less than a minute and she came! She is healthy in every way and we are so thankful to God for our little girl.
Greta weighed in at 8 lbs 6 oz and is 21 inches long. Her head circumference is 14 cm. All my kids were about the same size and have good sized heads!
Greta is a beautiful baby and it feels so good to dress her in pink! The boys are happy to have their little sister at home.
Brian and I have always loved the name Greta, it means pearl. We passed on my middle name and my mother’s middle name Jalyne to Greta. Her great grandparents created the name by putting their two names together, Jack and Arlene. It is an extra special family name.
We love our family of five!
